Great writeup. I do think that the Stars got goalied pretty consistently in the playoffs under DeBoer. I mean Philipp Grubauer almost stole a series against us 2 years ago and it's... Philipp Grubauer. It's not really a coincidence we've been bounced from our last three playoff appearances by bad goalies (Adin Hill, Stuart Skinner, Stuart Skinner) and have had our hands full with other bad/mediocre goalies (Adin Hill/Logan Thompson, Philipp Grubauer, Mackenzie Blackwood).
It'll be interesting to see what Gulutzan does, but it was pretty clear to me that DeBoer changed his system going into the playoffs every year and I think that's why we lost. If you look at Edmonton and Florida, and go back to the Tampa cup winning teams and Colorado when they won, they brought their style of hockey into the postseason and forced other teams to adapt. Dallas has adapted by design before even being pushed the last three years. In the regular season we have been a team that scores a ton off the rush and off of defensive trailers, in the post-season we've defeaulted to dump and chase hockey for some reason. The Stars' personnel are not great cycle personnel, which is why the regular season scoring works so well, but then when we change to a cycle game in the post-season we can't seem to get any sustained offense going.
Grubauer is an interesting example, because I’d argue he proves the point even further: he was even *better* in the preceding round against Colorado, the reigning champs. For Dallas to beat him when he was that hot is nothing to sneeze at. It took some great shots (like Wyatt’s) to get them over the hump that round.
For me, I have a recency bias issue. I simply look at the last two western conference finals (which, of course are paramount, to advance to the cup finals).
Jake has not outplayed Skinner. Not all his fault, of course. But if he had, we advance.
Can we get the boys some flu shots this year? Make CVS or whoever pay for it, it's the easiest marketing opportunity in history
I’ll ask the clerk next time I’m buying gum.

Nice article.

Interesting observation about Blackwoods’ success through the first couple of games in the first round.
Are you suggesting Sam Steel as an option on the PP?
Under almost no circumstances would I suggest such a thing.
