Good story, as always, Robert! Did Alberts get into his feelings about basically being forced out of Dallas, since I would guess that if the City had been working with the Stars for the Convention Center-adjacent instead of the Mavs, the Stars may not have been as far along with Plano as they are. Clearly, the Stars decided a long time ago that they were leaving Dallas, and it sounds like it's because Dallas just wasn't that motivated to keep them.
Thanks, Rick. The Stars can’t really comment on much about that with the ongoing legal stuff around AAC, but Alberts has said elsewhere that it’s been very smooth working with Plano, so my guess would be that’s been a big contrast to how it was working with the city of Dallas.
It’s pretty telling, to me, that Dallas city officials have yet to come out with any real substantive details about how they tried to keep the Stars. You’d think they would have wanted to show all the ways they tried to keep the team after they announced their intention to move. Instead, it’s been vague lip service. I think that speaks for itself.
Agreed. I know the City was "working" on ideas, but I doubt they ever got very far. I would guess, from the city manager's "Applebee's" comment, that she didn't really believe either team would actually leave. Guess she woefully underestimated the draw of Applebee's...
Props on the footnote / error acknowledgement. To paraphrase the old chestnut, the only difference between three million dollars and three billion dollars is about $3 billion.
Maximizing revenue for a guy who is making billions from loans against just the value of a team that he will earn billions more on when he sells… kinda hard to feel sorry for him/them.
I understand from a business perspective that all of these details make sense, and if I were trying to turn a profit, I can't say I would operate differently. I do appreciate the honesty from Alberts, however, from a pure fan perspective, these are all sounding disappointing. Victory plus being free was never going to last forever, but it possibly only being two seasons feels too short.

Good (well sort of depressing) read.

That’s a great line.

I can't wait until the Stars are in Plano!
Since the move became evident, I’ve resigned myself to hoping we can win a cup before we relocate.
I’ll absolutely be priced out of my season seats.
