So someone is going to offersheet Bourque tomorrow(probably) and then the stars will just have a bunch of mad players & Jason Robertson unsigned tomorrow but can't do anything with UFAs because Robo is still unsigned? A great offseason
Would love a positive outcome but not seeing many avenues to one right now! Dallas isn't looking like a destination for players trying to win with the Werenski veto
"Dallas isn't looking like a destination for players trying to win"
This was my first thought too. But Toronto is on Werenski's (two) team list. That doesn't sound like "winning now" is his main motivator. Maybe the dudes shaman told him he needed to wear blue and white.
I too find it hard to be at any one person but, man Jim Nill is NOT having his best moments. Having these major trades get announced and seemingly thinking ONE thing is going to happen and then the exact OPPOSITE thing happens....anyone other GM and he'd be under SERIOUS scrutiny right now.
He's earned the good will but man. He's got some serious heavy lifting in front of him to make any of this work either short or long term.
For years and years we've heard that Jim Nill is this rare GM who operates in the most professional manner and treats people with respect and does everything the right way. I believe that's true and that's fantastic. But I feel that narrative is about to get tested....because it's at a time like this that always being a person who respects others is supposed to get some in return.
I completely agree. He has earned the goodwill, but its running thin right now. Especially with the Bourque news. He's now traded away 2 of the young guys that were supposed to be big pieces of the future.
It's very hard to look at where this team was prior to the Mikko trade and where it is today and not think Nill mortgaged much of the future to win now...and we've have 2 series victories in two years and team is almost certainly going to be worse in 2027 than it was in 2026.
No Stankoven, no Bourque, no 1st round picks in '26 and '28. You're potentially losing Robertson and you've publicly tried to trade both Robertson and Harley.
Like I said earlier, virtually any other GM does this and he's on the street.
In what world is Tampa closer to the cup than Dallas? Man, it was a perfect trade… only loser was going to be Harley, though a well paid loser :). Harley should thank his lucky stars that Werenski said no! Only worse place to go to now? Edmonton with a Dino-coach. I mean, another Dino-coach.
How did he not get confirmation that Werenski hadn’t agreed to the trade?
How did he let Bourque get to Restricted Free Agency? Are they going to just match any offer, even if it’s absurd?
How has he failed to lock up our 26 year old who just scored 45 goals over a $2M dispute in value?
Why hasn’t he cleared any cap space with some of these other tradable pieces?
I’m sorry - Nill gets way too much credit for stuff that occurred many years ago. His track record the last few years has been bad. He should be squarely on the hot seat and fired if this offseason becomes the disaster it’s shaping up to be.
Meh. Stars haven't had to deal with much drama outside the Montgomery firing and "f***ing horsesh**" the past decade. Prolly why Nill keeps winning GM of the year. We were overdue, and I trust Nill to untangle it. We just get to feel like Leaf/Rangers fans for a few weeks, in the meantime.
Just imagine a team with Stank, Robo, Borque, and a happy Harley. Oh well, not happening. Nill and Janko knew nothing about the hockey landscape. Gaglardi has got to be fuming.
Hey...maybe Harley will get mad and play his tail off and "really show them what they almost traded away...". This is exactly why he was on the block and I'd rather have Petro and even Trey Taylor in the lineup than Harley.
What a total mess.
I can't imagine anyone is thrilled right now.
This might be a gargantuan understatement.

It will be interesting to see what happens!

😂😂😂
I'll say this here: fuck Andy Scott and his momma
Maybe let's tone it down a tad please.
To be fair, Andy Scott delivered us Wyatt and Mikko.
Trying to find one person to be mad at, but I think it’s everyone involved. Except Tom.

Jim Nill has botched this entire situation.

It's Don Waddell, not Janko in Columbus these days.
Janko is the cap guy for the Stars.
