The Stars will have their fourth straight practice on Saturday as the team does its best to get back into shape before the NHL season resumes on February 25.

Each practice has been a bit different. While we’ve tried to relay a few things from those practices over the past few days, I wanted to take a moment to mention three things in particular that have stuck in my mind as I’ve driven back and forth to Frisco with Olympic hockey also occupying a good piece of my mind.

So, here are Three Cool Things.

Adam Erne’ Son Practices with the Stars

On Friday afternoon, the Stars had another fairly intense practice. But that intensity was quickly followed by a very sweet moment, when Adam Erne brought his five-year-old son, Tysen, onto the ice.

Tysen, who plays hockey on a local youth team, sported a sweater with his dad’s number (73) and a left-shot stick that he tested out for a good chunk of time, exchanging passes with his dad and other players.

In talking with Adam and Tysen after practice, Tysen confirmed that he had indeed scored a goal, which you can see documented here below:

After skating together for a while, the Ernes came off the ice and into the Stars’ dressing room. And one of the first questions dad was faced with was, “Where does the goalie sit?” In that moment, I absolutely remembered what it was like to be a kid, when I was fascinated1 by all the unique gear and procedures attached to hockey goalies, too.

When Tysen was asked who his favorite player was, I got the sense that Adam expected him to say “Mikko Rantanen.” Instead, Tysen paused only a moment before saying, “my dad.”

But Adam Erne knows what he’s about, as Tysen did confirm that Rantanen is his second-favorite player, because Rantanen gave him a stick.
