On the hockey side, there is still much to be said about the Dallas Stars that isn’t altogether reflected in their 11-4-3 record.

They’re 3rd in the league in points after 22% of the season. That is right up there among some of the best starts after 18 games they’ve ever had under Jim Nill, and they’ve done it while playing what has plainly been less than the best hockey this group has to give.

But we’ll have all season to dissect results and argue about processes. Today, I wanted to share something else.

Last year around this time, I went to Finland for a week to see firsthand what the Stars were encountering on their trip for the NHL’s Global Series in Finland. It was a trip worth every bit of the investment of time, money, and effort that I put into it, and then some.

So as I sit in a Vermont hotel room that stubbornly refuses to combat the freezing temperatures outside before a 6:00am Saturday flight back to Dallas, I wanted to share some of my initial reflections on a much shorter but similarly wonderful road trip through a slice of Canada across the last few days.
