This Year’s Stars Team Is Deeper than Ever Before
Just a quick note to mention my new piece in D Magazine today. After watching and talking to the Stars’ new additions (and returning depth players), it’s undeniable that this team is deeper than ever. So while there are still questions to be answered over the course of the season, Jim Nill has certainly set them up to weather a lot of storms. Give it a look here:
One thing I really became convinced of while putting this piece together is that depth isn’t just about getting all the elite pieces on one roster. That’s nice, but almost impossible these days (have you heard about the salary cap world we are living in?) for a couple of reasons. But the way depth really serves to make a team better is by bumping everyone down a spot from where they would normally be playing. So you have Matt Duchene playing middle-six minutes; you have Sam Steel, Evgenii Dadonov, and Colin Blackwell leading a fourth line that would be an excellent third line on most teams; and you have Thomas Harley freed up to be even more dangerous on another pairing. And this is all before Lian Bichsel has even arrived.
Anyway, give it a read. We’ll have plenty more at Stars Thoughts this week, but if I’m not plugging my own work here, then am I even a Content Creator?*
*Man, I hope not. That phrase is as cynical as it gets
