I watched the Jim Nill press conference last night; it’s amazing how calm he was. 48 hours of up and down negotiations and he’s still cool, calm, and collected.

Stars fans are so lucky to have Jim and his team. They are such a classy group! Happy with the pick up and looking forward to see what magic they can do to keep most of the players here.

I read somewhere that Texas, being a no-State Tax entity, means that Milo keeps approx 4.6 million that he would have lost by going back to The Avs………who, IMHO, we’re nuts to let him go in the first place.

It might be as simple as, Colorado didn't want to play hardball with him, and so they acted fast to get something more back. I don't think they do the same thing if they didn't win in 2022 though.

I wonder if the Avs are kicking themselves for not exploring sign-and-trade options, or at least just shopping Mikko around. Maybe they thought banishing him to the east would be better than a marginally better offer from a conference rival?

Very possible! But either way, it'll make their rematches with Dallas pretty darn spicy.

I've seen this a lot and ddn't think it plays a huge role. I think the fact Dallas has 4 Fins on the team already, guys Mikko played with in 4-Nations, plays a bigger role in Mikko's willingness to come to Dallas.

It's never been more clear than in the last month or so (given the other trade dealings happening in the AAC) that we are so incredibly lucky to have Jim Nill.

Great piece, as always, Robert! I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there were sabateurs behind the scenes. Evidently, all of the intangibles of the Stars organization tipped things in our favor, despite that!

Something that I haven't seen brought up in all of this is that around the time of the first trade, nobody knew that Mikko was even available! I hate to defend the Canes, but they deserve credit for sniffing that out. Sure, they have egg on their face, but as soon as they saw things weren't working out, they pivoted and got a handsome return. Stankoven is hardly just a consolation prize!

That said, Jim Nill is rightfully getting all the praise for recognizing these extraordinary circumstances as the time to pounce. He told the DMN that he saw Dallas fans' disillusionment with their AAC neighbors as a signal to aggressively pursue this. I think his gambit has massive potential to grow the sport of hockey here in Texas, as the excitement is unequivocally on the Stars' side!

Poor Carolina never stood a chance because Colorado wanted to pull a fast one on Rantanen. I guess Carolina were desperate for a superstar and Colorado took advantage. Pure subterfuge by Colorado

I think I have consumed every article/video/podcast about Mikko to Dallas. I can't get enough of it. So happy he's here.
