The Dallas Stars' Trade Deadline Shopping List Is a Tricky One, But Let's Look at a Few Names Anyway

As Jim Nill has said a couple of times recently, the Stars would prefer to wait until after the Olympic break before making any trades.

The reasons for this are pretty clear: First, because more time should allow more teams to become sellers, thereby adding more potential players into the market; and Second, because some players could get injured in the next few weeks (either in the NHL or at the Olympics themselves), which could drastically alter a team’s plans.

Of course, a marked lack of success over an extended period of time can also alter a team’s plans. And that’s why it makes sense for the Stars to have been looking at making multiple moves before the deadline, similar to what they did last year in acquiring Cody Ceci and Mikael Granlund over a month before the Mikko Rantanen trade.

I was a guest on the DLLS show yesterday, and we talked about a few things, but potential Stars trade acquisitions were one of the topics.

One thing I mentioned on the show is what I believe the Stars would like to add, in a perfect world. Now, the Stars don’t have that many obviously tradeable assets in the draft pick cupboard or the system right now, but if money and cap space were no object, here’s what I think this team could use before making another playoff run:
