The decision Cuban made to sell to the Adelson family will come to define his legacy if it hasn’t already.
The family that bought the Las Vegas review journal because they didn’t like the papers coverage of them was never going to do what was right for the city of Dallas, its citizens, or the mavericks fans.
At least Cuban took civic pride and was a resident of this city.
These are outsiders who have contempt for us and couldn’t care less about the city. And because of that, all of the business in victory park are going to die. The stars better prepare for the future because the arena is full now, but if a downtown happens when all of our best players start aging out, will they be able to fill that new arena?
Thanks for the story… it’ll be interesting if not depressing to read, I predict. Any Seattle SuperSonics fan has read this story before… “yes I’d prefer to keep the team here, no suitable arena deal or site or financial incentives have been found. Yet”. Then, it’s hello Vegas! (Or to the highest bidder!)
At least the Stars can get a new building designed for hockey! First word -steep, (hopefully not prices), but seat design, the best rinks have steep seating for the best sight lines!
There was never going to be a resolution that fit everyone’s check list, but I feel for fans who live in Ft. Worth, Arlington, South Dallas, etc. I hope, with little faith, that the Stars will not make the same mistake.
Thanks for the detailed write-up! This has been one saga that has made my head spin. Very disappointing that the city took the Mavericks' side, and almost a certainty that neither team will play in downtown Dallas after 2031.
This whole ordeal is so disappointing, and makes me think so much less of Mark Cuban for selling out to these carpetbaggers. I have full faith in Gagliardi. Even though, like the Adelsons, he's not from the area, he's always tried to do right by the locals and ingrain himself in the fans.
The people who lead the city of Dallas have been ruining it for years. Now the Stars are leaving for Plano, same with AT&T btw, and all they will have to show is maybe filling the Valley View hole…I wonder what they plan to do with all the empty office space, also wonder why anyone would want to live there now
As a STH since 2003 (most years as part of a group, and the last ten as a full season), I know I’m going to be priced out. Stars tickets are arguably the best value in the entire NHL.
It’s a real shame to see the spectrum of ownership from Don Carter and his devotion to the team and the fan base and the city to Mark Cuban and his devotion towards the fans and the team and now the Adelsons.

Cuban was an incompetent owner. In addition to selling to the Adelson family, he also made so many bad Basketball decisions.
Truly this is the worst timeline.
But also thanks for the summary of unfortunate events.

Too late for having faith.

Sure hope we can play in the finals before 2032…
