Rough Notes from Game 1 of the Detroit/Dallas Prospect Games: Detroit Wins 6-2
Dallas did not win this game
As expected, the Red Wings’ prospect group looked sharper and faster in the first half of this weekend’s set of games with Dallas. But as we talked about Saturday morning, these games are about a lot more (and less) than the final score.
Here are some quick and dirty notes from Frisco, where we just watched Detroit win Game 1 by a score of 6-2.
Here are some raw notes written in-the-moment (isn’t everything?), filed at the buzzer before talking to coaches or players. They’re going to be very rough and Dallas-centric, because I presume you don’t care about my Michael Brandsegg-Nygård takes. (He’s pretty good.)

First Period
Opening goal of the game: Emmitt Finnie turns the corner on Muhonen and forces it through Kraws’s five hole. 1-0 less than a minute in. Tough one for Muhonen on his off side, but you’d like him to make that play more difficult for the forward.
Kraws with a big right shoulder save on Danielson from the circle three minutes in, followed by a glove stop on Finnie shortly afterward. Good to shake off that first goal.
Hemming puts on a bit of a dangle through the neutral zone in the first. Wouldn’t get away with that in the NHL, but it’s a good reminder of how skilled he is.
An aggressive shift from Trey Taylor to create a shot with his legs ends in Detroit sending the puck over the glass. Power play.
Said power play struggles to gain the zone, but top unit finally does late in the set. And Taylor gets a shot through from the point that gets deflected and goes just wide. That’s the only look they get.
Kraws with a few more good saves as the period goes on. He’s keeping the Stars in the game, for now.
Hemming late in the period tries to take the puck along the boards in his zone and go, but instead it gets put back down low for Detroit by the pinching defenseman. Maybe too risky of a play to make with 10 seconds to go in a period, one would think.
