Monday Dallas Stars Roundup: Ripple Effects of Nils Lundkvist Going on IR, and Updates on Matt Duchene, Jamie Benn, and Thomas Harley
It's a painful time in Dallas right now
You’ve probably heard the news by now, but the Stars made it official today: Nils Lundkvist has been placed on Injured Reserve, retroactive to October 16.
What we know is that Lundkvist picked up a lower-body injury during the game against Vancouver last Thursday. Lundkvist finished a shift with just over five minutes remaining in the second period, and he did not return to the game after that.
“Nils is gonna be week-to-week,” Gulutzan said today. “He’s gonna go on the IR with a lower-body injury. So he’ll be gone for a bit.”
Initially, Gulutzan said the Stars were remaining “optimistic,” but after what sounds like further imaging and/or testing, they have decided to put Lundkvist on the shelf for a while. Gulutzan also said the team will need to call up another player (likely a defenseman), but the plan may be to wait until their next extended road trip.
“We’ve got six healthy [defensemen], and the healthy forwards,” Gulutzan said. “So we’re gonna stay status quo. But especially if we’re gonna go on the road for any length of time, you gotta get another defenseman up.”
