I wish Nill would have made some trades first before announcing a deal for Duchene. This send like putting ourselves dealing from a position of weakness now as it's much more obvious we are in serious cap trouble. I'm not unhappy having Dutch back but still feel like those cap dollars could have been better spent on the wing or at RHD

Yes! In isolation it's a deal I like but I'm with you. There's still a lot of moving parts and how the whole thing shakes out will determine how I feel about it. Plenty to like, but it does lock some factors in early whether we like it or not.

Of course there's also the bonus that we don't get the magic amulet... That's a nice perk all on its own!

I think other teams were well aware of the tight spot Dallas is in. But if there's competition in bidding for players like Marchment, the Stars should be able to still get a good return for them regardless of how tight they are to the cap.

I personally would love to see Wyatt make the move up to 2C. I think a lot of his “lack of production” can be pinned somewhat on his lineys, who were more of a hindrance than a help for most of the playoffs.

I think Wyatt is going to be playing those sorts of minutes regardless of where he skates in line rushes. He was the second-highest forward in ice time, so I wouldn't worry about technical terms. He's a top six guy at minimum already.

Kinda spitballing here but I’d like to see Robo on a line with Seguin and Duchene, idk what you’re gonna do about the top line winger for Roope and Mikko (Bourque?) but giving that Duchene line, which plays with the puck and generates chances (that don’t score). The best goal scorer on the team, could work in the playoffs. Where Robo knows how to score

Bourque is a RW. Mikko is a RW. He's not an option. He'll hopefully be WyJo's RW this year

I’d be down with that

Bob, so looking back with hindsight, the Stars gave up their # 1 pick for 4 months of Granlund and Cody Ceci, both of whom are unlikely returning to Dallas given the cap problem. They probably don't get to the Finals without both of those guys. Evaluation?

I think the Granlund hat trick against Winnipeg sealed that deal. They needed bodies for those big minutes, and they got to the final four. I think Nill would make that trade again, even though I personally would've looked for an alternative to Ceci at the time. But Granlund may have cost a first anyway, so it may well have been the best option they had, at the time.

Granlund was a good rental. Ceci was exactly who we all thought he was. I really thought we could have done better. Why not call up Petrovic instead and maybe trade a 2nd for Granlund? In retrospect, it was a flat trade for me

Just don't trade Robo. I will settle for whatever else they have to do to meet the cap. Buy out Dumba (good riddance). Buy out or trade Mush (ouch). Whatever. But don't let Robo get away. The Stars are still in their Cup contention window. Robo gives them a better chance to win it all than any middle six forward or lower pair defenseman that you hope to replace Robo with.

Would love to see that second line happen!

Glad to see them re-sign Matt and hope Robo isn’t traded. But, I don’t know how basically just subtracting Dumba, Mush and player x is going to help this team improve a level or two that is required to win a cup. They are a level below Edmonton, who is another level below Florida.
