Not gonna gripe about defensemen not named Iyla, Thomas, or Esa because I already did that over at the hellsite. So, I'll say here that the Jets are a seriously good hockey team. They played almost perfectly in their own end, and they made the Stars pay dearly for their mistakes leading to several transition goals. Had the Stars played their best game, they might have still lost 1-0 or 2-1, or at best would have gone into OT.
Bring on the Avs, who also lost to those pesky Vancouver Canucks at home tonight. Do the Avs EVER play road games? Well, they'll be playing at least two road games against the Stars soon enough.
Not a huge Dumba fan… but it needs to be noted… the Stars want their d to pinch… and rely on a forward to get back and pretend he knows how to play d, after perfecting his skills such that he was drafted specifically because of his advanced skills as a… you guessed it, a forward… makes perfect sense… not!
Yeah, his second pinch wasn't a bad play by him, as he's just trying to lead a rush to come back into the game. I guess maybe "caught" isn't a fair word.
The Stars overall team defense is an issue and last night showed it isn't on the same planet as the Jets. Yes, Hellebuyck is a great goalie, but he was very rarely challenged due to that fantastic team defense. I'm worried about the playoffs, especially against physical teams, because the Stars are a finesse team and struggle against physical teams both offensively and defensively.
I really appreciate the way in which you contextualize the nerd math and integrate it in a palatable way. It's not mind numbing, boring, nor haughty, nor gainsaying toward straightforward thoughtful coverage. You use it in a complimentary fashion.

This is well said. The Jets look incredible this year, and the Stars might feel like Colorado are mortal in comparison. That'd be one hope, anyway.
