it was an odd game. Dallas weathered the storm in the first period and became the storm in the second period. By the way, I think of Robo not as surgeon, but as a hockey assassin — but I digress. Looked to me like the Stars got bored after going up 4-0 and started to play with their food, then they took some dumb penalties and let the Oilers back in the game with power play goals.

After the game, Darren Pang made an astute point: Dallas gives up many good scoring chances, but Jake Oettinger is the great equalizer. People need to be focused on fancy stats like xGA% rather than save percentage. That’s where Jake excels. But this won’t take them 4 rounds into the playoffs without Miro. If this was a playoff game with McDavid and Draisaitl and without Miro, they get drilled tonight like they did a few weeks ago.

Yeah, agreed on most counts. DeBoer was not happy about the first and third periods, and the penalties obviously exacerbated those issues. They'll have a chance against Calgary to shake it off.

Yep, just listened to the postgame comments. Pete called it a "disappointing win" and the players didn’t seem too happy either. Seems about right, but they can fix this against Calgary. Read somewhere that the Stars have the best record in the NHL in the second of back to back games, which tells you just how good this team can be.

"The Edmonton power play looked much less fearsome without two of the best players in the NHL, which is what I call Brilliant Analysis."

Sir do the numbers back this up? I'm gonna need a source

I’m not sure how Steel is supposed to stop when he’s pulled around 90° by the shoulder, taking him off balance, while being ridden into the goalie by the defender.

But the last 3 calls I thought were all pretty weak. And it wasn’t helped any by the Robertson “high stick” where the guy skates into his stick and then flops to the ice. Or the fact that Steel got the butt end of the stick to the face right off a draw that was uncalled.

Have they been playing a little more sloppily? Sure. But they’ve also been on the receiving end of quite a few questionable calls that go against them and some obvious calls they don’t get in the last couple of weeks.

Yeah, some of the calls definitely seemed a little soft. But they've been asking for it a bit with their 5v5 play in too many games this month. Some calls you earn, and some calls you deserve.

Rare criticism: it's not a shot clock; it's a shot counter.

I'll move on now.

Yeah, just using that term because DeBoer did. Obviously we know that's a basketball term.

I'll correct him next time I get the chance.

I'm that guy.
