I sense this postgame’s going to produce longer comments than usual for… reasons. Forgive my TL;DR in advance:
Robert, I see the parallel you made in part of this write-up to Deboer’s leveled response to questions about Bischel’s “antics” towards the end of game 5.
Oh my god. Oh my god. I actually cannot believe how this blue line managed to step up in Miro’s absence. In light of the end to the regular season. In light of how that assemblage of THOSE 6 dudes looked on paper.
There are storylines aplenty to pick apart from this series, and #96 is undoubtedly the story of how the series was decided. But if we’re talking about how the series was WON—not decided—this blue line is the ONLY story in my opinion.
#55, #46, #23, #44, #28, and #6–especially our newest darling child #6–could each warrant a write-up of their own after this 2-week effort.
The Stars didn’t win a Stanley Cup tonight, but dammit does this series win feel different than many others I’ve witnessed as a fan. If there’s ever been a year in recent history to truly believe, it’s this one.
There’s something magical about going to bed, finally falling asleep after the adrenaline subsides, and then waking up in the middle of the night, remembering what you just saw, and throwing a fist in the air to celebrate an all-timer third period while you are half-asleep.
Colorado fans are going to complain about this game, but really, this series was so fated: the Avs were eliminated because they couldn’t kill a power play (despite having multiple 4-minute PPs themselves); they gave up the Stars’ first goal in Game 7 because of a pick play (an infraction they were guilty of earlier this series and similarly went uncalled); and because of Rantanen’s will (a player they chose to trade away). That sounds like Greek mythology to me.
Wait, there’s more! The penalty that gave the Stars the late PP (and the lead) was committed by… one of the players the Avs received for Rantanen. Tarantino couldn’t write a revenge-based screenplay better than this
What a great hockey game! Mikko is the real deal. Thanks Avs! Wyatt is amazing and steps up in big moments with a great two way game. How about Q Petrovic and Lian? That is a huge story and begs the question of why he doesn’t have a regular NHL gig?
"Mikko Rantanen, essentially served divorce papers by his former team, showed up with his hot new girlfriend to flaunt in front of the Avalanche brass,"—Razor said it best, as he usually does.
I admit, I said they were done... I picked Colorado in 5 when this started. I was in the building ready to walk out after that 2nd goal. I love being totally WRONG.... What an awesome game to experience!
That was a game for the ages.

The blue line was incredible. They really were.
What a game, what a win. Simply awesome. Game 7's, what more can you say? HOLY MIKKO RANTANEN! Round 2 here we come! Bonus MacKinnon sad faces!
And that was only the First Round...
Still up, eh? Me too, reading everything I can find, saving the postgame vids for last. What a game
Read through multiple threads on the Avs MHH site, including the 830 post GDT. Feel bad for those guys, but someone has to lose, glad it wasn't us
We're not going home!

Words escape me. Thanks RT. 👍👍

I need to buy the movie rights to this one before people realize this!
A rollercoaster of emotions in this game and the best possible ending. In Nill we trust! LFGS!

Because Miro Heiskanen was healthy, is the answer. And because Matt Dumba and Brendan Smith were taking those roster spots.

Oh that is Razor at his very best. Wonderful!
That was my first game 7 to attend in person and WOW what an atmosphere and what a game!
No kidding!

Proud of the lads!
Holy shit.
That was incredible. The moose is loose.
