I've been reading all of the comments and posts and ranting and, man, the pitchforks are OUT. For me, I don't think this is PDB's fault, or a lack of retaliation, or a lack of toughness, or whatever...we're just getting beat by a really good team who has locked us down and taken advantage of every mistake.
Plus, (and I agree, Robert), we look tired. Tough regular season with lots of extra minutes logged where they had to get logged (thanks, Mark Stone) and then two brutal rounds of the playoffs just to get here. Hell, I'M tired!
Also, it's not over!
"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
I encourage us all to yell and scream through our disappointment and try to push this team to get to game 6 and just see what can come together. We may ALL be exhausted, but we're still in it...which is more than Colorado, Vegas, Winnipeg, Minnesota, and 24 other teams can say.
Now, I'm not Jim Nill and I don't know what moves we need to make if we don't come back from 3-1, but I trust him and the rest of the front office and even PDB to do it again. Theoretically, we are in the type of shape than Tampa was (in regards to veterans, youth, and (probably) talent) when they went to 3 straight cup finals. I'd argue we are still set up like Florida (who are about to win it again). Running it back and getting here again seems daunting and frankly unlikely, but we can do it.
I'm sure I'll get sent to the stake for saying some of this, but that's the beauty of fandom and the debate that comes with it. I'm happy to hear your opinion and I may even change my mind. But, in the end, none of us really know what to do or how to help...we're just along for the ride. I love this team and being a fan with all of you. We're the best.
The lack of fight in this team is almost breathtaking. I've seen them respond and attack with fury all season and in the playoffs. There is no way they are "tired". The feckless level of play is almost unforgivable, and these guys should be looking themselves in the mirror and asking how bad they really want to win a Stanley Cup. This is a passenger car, and seemingly no one will step up and take charge. so sad to see.
Yeah that ain’t it. Teams that “lose way too many corner battles” and no one “goes to the net” don’t win as much as the Stars have. That’s just gross mischaracterization.
If Mikko’s shot goes in and Dreiseitl’s doesn’t you’re singing a completely different tune. That’s how close the margins are. NOTHING else changes and your perception would be 100% different.
“Lack of fight” is the kind of non-sense someone who sits on the sideline, having never once participated, yet claims they understand what the players are going through.
When I say this is not a physical team, I don't mean fighting/retaliation type of physical. I mean they lose way too many corner battles for the puck (for several years now), they don't have anyone that consistently goes to the front of the net on offense and they don't push opponents out of their crease. A couple of powerplay goal by the Oilers have happened when Johnston (game 3) and Ceci game 4) have let Oilers tip pucks unabated right in front of the goal. Opponents should fear being near the Stars goal, it should not be an easy and pleasant experience.
At this point of the playoffs, I think it entirely possible that the Dallas Stars might be only the 3rd or 4th best team in the NHL this season. Which is okay, I guess, but still disappointing and still below expectations not only for the Stars organization and fanbase but also much of the hockey media. You see a team work so hard all season and an organization that has made every right move for a team who never gets to pick high in the draft (much less like the Oilers for so long) not getting fully rewarded for doing things the right way. But...that's sports.
BTW, I think DeBoer is a terrific coach -- maybe the best Dallas Stars coach since the 1990s version of Ken Hitchcock. I hope that the Stars extend his contract. He's not the problem here. Not even close. No one really is -- no shame in being in the top 4 of the best hockey league on the planet for 3 straight years and still in your Stanley Cup contending window for several seasons to come.
Oh, and the Stars could still win this series if they hold serve at home tomorrow night.
Thanks Robert. Let’s wait and see. I agree - too many people using recency bias to be overly negative. Stars are a very good team for now and the future, regardless if they advance, or not.
Few teams advance this far. As a Canadian (near Toronto) resident, Leafs fans have gone this far (maybe) once in 50+ years. Hopefully we can continue, but, we are set up well for the future.
All the shit Edmonton talked about winning the series, is most likely going to end up NOT biting them in the ass
But all the shit they talked about Roope might

Love your take, well said

Exactly
Take a Valium bud. Learn hockey and sports.
Wow
