Bob. Will you be diving into the cap space and possible trade thoughts with Bich and Tyler now on LTIR? Given the Stars have been playing lights out with 3 of their top 6 defenseman out, and that Bich will be back probably in two months, I doubt the team does anything on D. But where they can use a big chunk of Tyler's salary once it is confirmed he is out for the season, would you expect the team to try and replace a top 6 winger/centerman? They have obviously played outstanding without both Benn and Duch, but Tyler does so many things that Duch does not, such as kill penalties and he's one of the best in the league at faceoffs as well, I believe.

Yes, we'll definitely be talking about trade stuff in the near future, as those things heat up.

Even if Tyler Seguin miraculously returns early, they can still use up to $3.8 million of his cap hit in the meantime. They'll have space to work with if they want to add players, and my sense right now is that they will very likely add before the deadline, though I think they're less worried about center depth than wingers right now.

Am I right....the Stars have TWO regulations losses in their last 24 games?

Since suffering their 3rd straight regulation loss on Oct. 21st, they've gone 17-7 with 3 OT losses, 2 SO losses and 2 REG losses.

So that's 39 of a possible 48 points, or 81.5% of possible points.

And they're still in 2nd place in the division. Colorado has banked 82.8% of possible points across the entire season. So the 3 points that currently separates Dallas from Colorado can essentially be placed on that early losing streak.

All this with injuries to:

The team's captain

#2 DMan

#3 DMan

#5 DMan

Two top six forwards

And a new head coach. Who really deserves a lot of credit for making this happen.

I know the fancy math guys will point to "unsustainability" around 5-on-5 play and such. But IMO actual results are waaay more important than who has the best statistical profile when:

1. You're missing anywhere from 3 to 5 of your top 12 players

2. Standings are based on wins and losses and not who had the best corsi score.

Colorado and Dallas have combined to lose 7 games in regulation...which is the same number as the next best team (Pittsburgh); no other team has less than 9.

This is nuts.

You are correct.

And yes, it's kinda nuts how good they've been in spite of their injuries. Perhaps even completely nuts!

I also think the Stars' corsi score is far less of an issue with the way they run their system this year. More to write about that, but I think they've really gotten good at limiting quality in a way that is comfortable for both goalies and defensemen to deal with, and it makes them a very dangerous team in any game--even when they aren't playing their best.
