Good road win. How many times have we seen Otter turn into a brick wall after giving up one or two early goals. Also, Quinn Hughes is really good and he seemed to be on the ice all night. Now I need to go watch that Moose goal on a loop for the rest of the night. 😂
Good stuff, Robert. I can't hang for regular season West Coast weeknight games, so I love your coverage. The D Mag piece was excellent. It is easy to recall the runup to the Cup, winning it, and the few post-glow years afterward, but those two provided great calls, night after night, during those long down years, too.
He has said that it was just time for him to do something new, and he did that over the next decade in and out of hockey, until finally retiring from broadcasting this year.
I'm sure there are always more nuances that the public knows in those situations, but generally speaking, I think it's best to take Ralph at his word here. He's written about it a bit on his own Substack, too.
Oskar Back appreciation post… I saw Faksa getting well-deserved love for his role in the Blackwell goal, but Back also makes a really nice, dainty play off the boards to Faksa. I’ve been watching Oskar closely recently and man, he really just makes good, solid plays all over the ice. Finds way to positively influence the game consistently and with little fanfare. I feel he’s under-appreciated!
I’ve been meaning to write about how good he’s looked on wing this year vs last year, and just haven’t gotten around to it. But that trip really can do a lot of good things. Such a huge boost for this team when they’ve needed it.
